Description

This Baked Cranberry Brie Bread Bowl is a warm and inviting appetizer perfect for holiday gatherings or cozy nights. A round bread boule is hollowed out and filled with creamy Brie cheese, topped with sweet and tart cranberries, crunchy nuts, honey, and a hint of cinnamon, then baked to melty perfection. Garnished with fresh herbs, it’s served with the toasted bread pieces for dipping, combining creamy, fruity, and nutty flavors in every bite.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Bread Bowl and Cheese

  • 1 round bread boule (sourdough or any round loaf)
  • 1 wheel of Brie cheese (8 ounces)

Toppings

  • 1 cup fresh or dried cranberries
  • 1/2 cup pecans or walnuts, roughly chopped
  • 1/4 cup honey or maple syrup
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Garnish (Optional)

  • Fresh rosemary or thyme sprigs

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it reaches the perfect temperature for baking the Brie and toasting the bread.
  2. Prepare the Bread Bowl: Cut the top off the bread boule carefully and hollow out the center, leaving about a 1-inch thick shell around the sides and bottom. Keep the bread pieces you remove to serve later for dipping.
  3. Prepare the Brie: Remove the top rind from the Brie wheel to help it melt smoothly. Place the Brie firmly into the hollowed-out bread bowl.
  4. Add Toppings: In a small bowl, combine the cranberries, chopped nuts, honey or maple syrup, and ground cinnamon. Stir to mix well. Spoon this mixture evenly over the Brie in the bread bowl.
  5. Bake: Place the filled bread bowl on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the Brie inside is melted, bubbly, and the bread crust is toasted to a golden brown.
  6. Serve: Once baked, garnish with fresh rosemary or thyme if desired. Serve immediately with the reserved bread pieces, crackers, or sliced apples for dipping into the warm melted cheese and cranberry topping.

Notes

  • Use fresh cranberries for a tart bite or dried cranberries for extra sweetness.
  • Choose pecans or walnuts depending on your preference; both add a lovely crunch.
  • Maple syrup can be used instead of honey for a richer sweetness.
  • Removing the top rind of Brie helps it melt creamy but you can leave it if preferred for texture.
  • Serve the bread bowl immediately for best results; the Brie will firm up as it cools.
  • Make sure to save the hollowed-out bread pieces to serve as dippers with the melted cheese.
