Scale
Butter Mixture
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
Biscuit Dough
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 3/4 cups buttermilk
- 1 cup blueberries
Instructions
- Preheat and prepare pan: Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). Melt 1/2 cup of unsalted butter and pour it into an 8×8-inch baking dish to coat the bottom evenly.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a large bowl, whisk together 2 cups all-purpose flour, 1 tablespoon baking powder, 1 tablespoon granulated sugar, and 1 teaspoon salt until well combined.
- Add buttermilk: Pour in 1 3/4 cups buttermilk and stir gently until just combined. Be careful not to overmix to ensure a tender biscuit texture.
- Fold in blueberries: Gently fold in 1 cup of fresh blueberries, taking care not to crush them, to distribute evenly throughout the dough.
- Transfer dough to pan: Spoon the batter into the butter-coated baking dish and spread it out evenly with a spatula.
- Score the dough: Using a sharp knife, score the top of the dough into 9 equal squares to facilitate portioning after baking.
- Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25–28 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Rest and serve: Let the biscuits rest for 5 minutes in the pan to set. Serve warm, optionally with honey or jam for added sweetness.
Notes
- Do not overmix the batter to keep the biscuits light and fluffy.
- Fresh blueberries are preferred for the best texture and flavor, but frozen can be used if thawed and drained well.
- Melted butter in the baking dish gives a rich flavor and a beautiful crust base.
- Scoring before baking makes it easier to divide the biscuits after baking.
- These biscuits are best enjoyed warm but can be reheated gently.
