Description

Indulge in the rich and gooey delight of Brown Butter Dulce de Leche Krispie Bliss, a decadent twist on the classic Rice Krispies treat. This recipe features browned butter for a nutty depth of flavor, melted mini marshmallows combined with creamy dulce de leche, and a hint of sea salt to balance the sweetness. Easy to prepare and irresistibly delicious, these treats are perfect for parties, snacks, or anytime you crave a comforting sweet bite.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Krispies Mixture

  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 10 oz mini marshmallows
  • ½ cup dulce de leche
  • ¼ tsp sea salt

Optional Topping

  • Flaky salt for topping

Instructions

  1. Brown the Butter: In a large pot, melt the unsalted butter over medium heat. Continue cooking while stirring occasionally until the butter turns a golden brown color and releases a nutty aroma. Be vigilant to prevent burning.
  2. Melt the Marshmallows: Add the mini marshmallows to the browned butter and stir continuously until the marshmallows are completely melted and the mixture is smooth and uniform.
  3. Add the Dulce de Leche: Stir in the dulce de leche and sea salt into the melted marshmallow mixture, stirring until everything is fully combined with a creamy consistency.
  4. Coat the Rice Krispies: Pour the Rice Krispies cereal into the pot and gently fold them into the marshmallow-dulce de leche mixture until all the cereal is evenly coated.
  5. Press and Set: Transfer the coated cereal mixture into a greased 9×13-inch pan. Press the mixture down evenly and firmly using a spatula to compact it for setting.
  6. Cool and Serve: Allow the Krispies to cool completely at room temperature. Once set, cut them into squares and sprinkle with flaky salt if desired to enhance the flavor balance.

Notes

  • Be sure to watch the butter closely while browning to avoid burning, which will impart a bitter taste.
  • If dulce de leche is unavailable, caramel sauce can be substituted but may alter the texture slightly.
  • Use a spatula dipped in warm water to press down the mixture to prevent sticking.
  • Flaky salt on top adds a delightful contrast and enhances the overall flavor.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
