Description

This Carrot Cardamom Halva Tart is a unique and delicious dessert blending the warm spices of cardamom and cinnamon with the sweetness of grated carrots and crumbled halva. Set in a buttery crust, this tart offers a delightful texture contrast and comforting flavors, perfect for an elegant dessert or a special occasion treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Crust

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon salt

Filling

  • 1 cup grated carrots (about 2 medium carrots)
  • 1 cup halva, crumbled
  • ½ teaspoon ground cardamom
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • ¼ cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch tart pan with a removable bottom to ensure easy removal later.
  2. Make the Dough: In a mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, softened unsalted butter, granulated sugar, egg, vanilla extract, and salt. Mix until the ingredients come together into a smooth dough.
  3. Form the Crust: Press the dough evenly along the bottom and up the sides of the prepared tart pan. Use a fork to prick the bottom of the crust to prevent bubbling. Chill the crust in the refrigerator for 15 minutes to firm up.
  4. Prepare the Filling: While the crust chills, mix together the grated carrots, crumbled halva, ground cardamom, ground cinnamon, milk, and honey in a large bowl until well combined, creating a flavorful filling.
  5. Assemble the Tart: Remove the chilled crust from the refrigerator and pour the carrot and halva filling into it, spreading it out evenly. If desired, sprinkle chopped walnuts on top for added crunch and flavor.
  6. Bake: Place the tart in the preheated oven and bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the filling is set and the crust turns lightly golden brown.
  7. Cool: Allow the tart to cool for at least 15 minutes before carefully removing it from the tart pan to ensure it holds its shape.
  8. Serve: Serve the tart warm or at room temperature for best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Chilling the crust before filling helps prevent shrinking and keeps the crust flaky.
  • Halva adds a distinct nutty sweetness; ensure it is crumbled finely for better texture integration.
  • Ground cardamom and cinnamon provide warm, aromatic notes—adjust spices to taste if desired.
  • Walnuts are optional but add nice texture and a nutty flavor matching halva.
  • This tart can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days; reheat gently before serving if preferred warm.
