Ingredients
Scale
Spinach Dip Filling
- 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup frozen chopped spinach, thawed and drained
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Dough and Toppings
- 2 cans refrigerated crescent roll dough
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Optional: sesame seeds or grated Parmesan for topping
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a large baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
- Prepare Spinach Dip Filling: In a medium bowl, combine softened cream cheese, sour cream, grated Parmesan, shredded mozzarella, thawed and drained chopped spinach, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix until the ingredients are thoroughly blended and set aside.
- Roll Out First Dough Layer: Spread out one can of refrigerated crescent roll dough on the prepared baking sheet, pinching the seams together to create a single, uniform sheet as the base.
- Spread Filling: Evenly spread the prepared spinach dip mixture over the dough, leaving a 1/2-inch border around the edges to seal the second dough layer properly.
- Roll Out Second Dough Layer: Roll out the second can of crescent roll dough and carefully place it on top of the spinach mixture, gently pressing the edges together to seal the filling inside.
- Shape the Dough: Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, trim the dough into a large triangle shape resembling a Christmas tree. Save any excess dough for optional decorative accents.
- Create Branches: Cut horizontal slices along both sides of the triangle, leaving a 1-inch wide center section untouched to form the tree’s trunk. Twist each sliced strip away from the center to mimic tree branches.
- Add Egg Wash and Toppings: Brush the entire surface of the dough tree with the beaten egg to achieve a glossy, golden finish. Sprinkle sesame seeds or extra grated Parmesan over the top if desired for added texture and flavor.
- Bake: Place the breadstick tree in the oven and bake for 20-25 minutes until the dough is golden brown and puffed up, indicating it’s fully cooked. Remove from the oven and allow it to cool for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Make sure to thoroughly drain the thawed spinach to avoid soggy dough.
- You can add extra garlic or herbs like dill or parsley to the spinach dip for added flavor.
- Use a sharp pizza cutter or knife to get clean cuts when shaping the tree and branches.
- Serve warm for the best gooey cheese texture, though leftovers can be reheated.
- Reserve any extra dough pieces to create stars or other festive shapes to decorate the tree.
