Description

These Crack Burgers are irresistible slider sandwiches loaded with seasoned ground beef, caramelized onions, melted cheese, and a rich buttery sauce, all baked to perfection on soft Hawaiian rolls. Perfect for game day or a casual gathering, these sliders combine savory and sweet flavors with a gooey, cheesy finish.

Ingredients

Scale

Beef Mixture

  • 1.5 lbs ground beef (80/20)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder

Sauce

  • ½ cup unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ tsp garlic powder

Other Ingredients

  • 12 Hawaiian rolls (or slider buns)
  • 6–8 slices American or cheddar cheese
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced and caramelized
  • Optional: pickles, jalapeños, bacon

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the sliders later.
  2. Cook Ground Beef: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef seasoned with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder until browned and fully cooked through. Drain any excess fat and set aside.
  3. Caramelize Onions: In the same or another skillet, melt some unsalted butter over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, for about 10–12 minutes until they turn soft, golden, and caramelized.
  4. Prepare Sauce: In a small saucepan, melt ½ cup unsalted butter over low heat. Whisk in the brown sugar, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic powder. Let the mixture simmer briefly, ensuring it combines into a smooth sauce.
  5. Slice Rolls: Carefully slice the Hawaiian rolls horizontally, keeping the bottom and top halves intact to hold the fillings.
  6. Assemble Sliders: On the bottom half of the rolls, layer the cooked ground beef, then spread the caramelized onions evenly atop the meat. Add slices of American or cheddar cheese on top of the onions, then place the top half of the rolls back on.
  7. Add Sauce: Pour the prepared buttery sauce evenly over the assembled slider tops, ensuring the sauce seeps down the sides for maximum flavor.
  8. Bake Covered: Cover the tray tightly with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes to melt the cheese and warm the sliders.
  9. Finish Baking: Remove the foil and bake uncovered for an additional 5–7 minutes, or until the tops are golden and slightly crispy.
  10. Rest and Serve: Allow the sliders to rest for 5 minutes out of the oven. Then slice between each slider and serve immediately. Optionally add pickles, jalapeños, or bacon as desired.

Notes

  • Use 80/20 ground beef for best flavor and juiciness.
  • Caramelizing the onions slowly is key for sweetness and depth.
  • The buttery sauce enhances moisture and adds a delicious glaze.
  • Hawaiian rolls provide a soft, slightly sweet base perfect for sliders.
  • Optional toppings like pickles or jalapeños add extra flavor and crunch.
  • For best results, serve warm right after baking.
