Description

Crispy Air Fryer Apple Fries are a delightful and healthier twist on traditional fried apple snacks. Coated in a cinnamon-sugar spiced breadcrumb crust and air fried to golden perfection, these apple fries are perfect for a quick dessert or snack. They offer a crunchy exterior with a tender, sweet apple inside and can be enjoyed with optional caramel sauce or vanilla yogurt dips.

Ingredients

Scale

Apples

  • 2 large apples, such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp

Breading

  • 65 grams all-purpose flour
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 60 grams panko breadcrumbs or regular breadcrumbs
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar

Others

  • Cooking spray
  • 120 milliliters caramel sauce (optional)
  • 120 grams vanilla yogurt (optional, for a lighter accompaniment)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Apples: Peel the apples if you prefer, then cut them into wedges approximately 1.25 centimeters thick. Remove and discard the cores and seeds to prepare them for breading.
  2. Make Cinnamon-Sugar Mix: In a small bowl, combine the ground cinnamon and granulated sugar. Set this mixture aside; it will be used in the breading and as a final topping.
  3. Organize Breading Station: Set up three bowls: place the all-purpose flour in the first bowl, the beaten eggs in the second, and the panko breadcrumbs in the third. Mix half of the cinnamon-sugar mixture into the breadcrumbs until evenly incorporated.
  4. Bread the Apple Wedges: Take each apple wedge and coat it first in the flour, shaking off any excess. Next, dip the coated wedge into the beaten eggs, ensuring it is completely covered. Finally, press the wedge gently into the cinnamon-sugar breadcrumb mixture so it is well coated. Repeat this process for all apple wedges.
  5. Cook in Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 190°C (375°F) for 3 minutes. Arrange the coated apple wedges in a single layer inside the air fryer basket, making sure not to overcrowd. Lightly spray the wedges with cooking spray to promote crispiness. Cook for 8 to 10 minutes, turning the wedges once halfway through cooking, until they are crisp and golden brown.
  6. Finish and Serve: Right after cooking, sprinkle the remaining cinnamon-sugar mixture over the hot apple fries for extra flavor. Serve them immediately with optional dipping sauces like caramel sauce or vanilla yogurt for a delicious accompaniment.

Notes

  • You can peel the apples or leave the skins on for extra texture and nutrients.
  • If you don’t have panko breadcrumbs, regular breadcrumbs can be used, but panko results in a crispier texture.
  • Adjust the sweetness of the cinnamon-sugar mixture to taste; adding a bit more sugar will create a sweeter crust.
  • For a vegan version, substitute eggs with a flax egg and use plant-based yogurt and caramel alternatives.
  • Serve these apple fries promptly as they are best enjoyed crispy right after cooking.
