Ingredients
Scale
Protein and Marinade
- 450g (1 pound) chicken breast meat, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 4 tbsp Char Siu sauce
- 2 tsp cornstarch
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp ground white pepper
- 1 tbsp light soy sauce
Vegetables
- 1/2 medium-sized carrot, thinly sliced
- 2 stalks scallions, sliced
- 450g (1 pound) cabbage, shredded into two-inch pieces
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 medium-sized onion, sliced
Instructions
- Prep the Chicken: Cut the chicken breast into bite-sized pieces for even cooking. Marinate them with the Char Siu BBQ sauce, salt, and cornstarch for at least 30 minutes to ensure maximum flavor absorption and tender texture.
- Prepare the Vegetables: While the chicken marinates, shred the cabbage into two-inch pieces, thinly slice the carrot, cut the scallions into pieces, and slice the onion. Keeping the vegetables uniform ensures even cooking.
- Stir-Fry: Heat a generous amount of oil in a wok over medium-high heat. Stir-fry the marinated chicken until golden brown and cooked through, then remove it from the wok. In the same wok, sauté the onions, garlic, and carrots until fragrant and slightly softened. Add the shredded cabbage and stir-fry until tender but still crisp. Return the chicken to the wok, toss everything together with the light soy sauce, and finish by stirring in the scallions.
Notes
- For extra heat, add sliced chili peppers or a dash of hot sauce during the stir-fry.
- To make a vegetarian version, substitute the chicken with tofu or tempeh.
- Adding a splash of sesame oil and sprinkling toasted sesame seeds at the end enhances the flavor with an Asian twist.
- Use free-range chicken for better flavor and texture.
- Ensure chicken pieces are bite-sized to allow even cooking and quick stir-frying.
- Do not overcook the cabbage to maintain its crunchy texture.
