Description

A hearty and comforting French Onion Ground Beef Rice Casserole combining savory ground beef, flavorful French onion soup mix, tender rice, and melted cheese, baked to perfection.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 cup uncooked rice
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 packet (about 1 ounce) French onion soup mix
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it is at the right temperature when the casserole is ready to bake.
  2. Cook Ground Beef: In a medium skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef, stirring occasionally until fully cooked and no longer pink.
  3. Combine Ingredients: Drain any excess fat from the skillet, then add the beef broth, cream of mushroom soup, and French onion soup mix. Stir well to combine the flavors.
  4. Add Rice and Simmer: Stir in the uncooked rice into the beef mixture and bring to a simmer on the stovetop, allowing the rice to begin absorbing the liquid and flavors.
  5. Transfer to Baking Dish: Grease a baking dish and transfer the entire beef and rice mixture into it, spreading evenly.
  6. Bake Covered: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes to allow the rice to cook through.
  7. Add Cheese and Finish Baking: Remove the foil, sprinkle shredded cheese evenly on top, then return to the oven and bake uncovered for an additional 10 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Notes

  • Use a baking dish large enough to evenly spread the beef and rice mixture.
  • Drain the excess fat carefully to avoid a greasy casserole.
  • Feel free to use any shredded cheese you prefer, such as mozzarella or a cheese blend, for varied flavor.
  • Check rice for doneness before serving; if still firm, bake a few more minutes with a splash of broth.
  • Leftovers keep well refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheat nicely in the microwave or oven.
