Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 cup uncooked rice
- 2 cups beef broth
- 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
- 1 packet (about 1 ounce) French onion soup mix
- 1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar or your choice)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it is at the right temperature when the casserole is ready to bake.
- Cook Ground Beef: In a medium skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef, stirring occasionally until fully cooked and no longer pink.
- Combine Ingredients: Drain any excess fat from the skillet, then add the beef broth, cream of mushroom soup, and French onion soup mix. Stir well to combine the flavors.
- Add Rice and Simmer: Stir in the uncooked rice into the beef mixture and bring to a simmer on the stovetop, allowing the rice to begin absorbing the liquid and flavors.
- Transfer to Baking Dish: Grease a baking dish and transfer the entire beef and rice mixture into it, spreading evenly.
- Bake Covered: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes to allow the rice to cook through.
- Add Cheese and Finish Baking: Remove the foil, sprinkle shredded cheese evenly on top, then return to the oven and bake uncovered for an additional 10 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Notes
- Use a baking dish large enough to evenly spread the beef and rice mixture.
- Drain the excess fat carefully to avoid a greasy casserole.
- Feel free to use any shredded cheese you prefer, such as mozzarella or a cheese blend, for varied flavor.
- Check rice for doneness before serving; if still firm, bake a few more minutes with a splash of broth.
- Leftovers keep well refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheat nicely in the microwave or oven.
