Description

A savory and flavorful French Onion Meat Sauce featuring ground beef simmered with diced onions, French onion soup mix, BBQ sauce, and seasonings. Perfect served over mashed potatoes, rice, egg noodles, or toast for a comforting meal ready in just 35 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 packet Lipton French Onion Soup Mix
  • ½ cup water (or beef broth)
  • 2–3 tablespoons BBQ sauce
  • ½ teaspoon Lawry’s Garlic Salt (or to taste)
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • Black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Brown the beef: Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain excess grease if needed.
  2. Add onion: Add the diced onion directly to the skillet with the browned beef.
  3. Cook onions: Cook for 3–5 minutes, stirring often, until the onion begins to soften and turn translucent.
  4. Add seasoning mix: Sprinkle the Lipton French Onion Soup Mix evenly over the beef and onion.
  5. Add liquids and sauce: Add the water (or beef broth) and BBQ sauce, stirring well to combine.
  6. Season: Season with Lawry’s Garlic Salt, garlic powder, and black pepper to taste.
  7. Simmer: Reduce heat to low and simmer for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens and the flavors meld together.
  8. Adjust seasoning: Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  9. Serve: Serve hot over mashed potatoes, rice, egg noodles, or toast for a hearty meal.

Notes

  • You can substitute water with beef broth for a richer flavor.
  • The BBQ sauce adds a subtle smoky sweetness; adjust the quantity to your liking.
  • This sauce pairs well with various starches like potatoes, noodles, or bread.
  • For a lower-sodium version, reduce the added salt and choose low-sodium soup mix if available.
