Description

These Tuna Jalapeño Poppers are a flavorful and spicy appetizer perfect for any gathering. Stuffed with a creamy mixture of tuna, cream cheese, and seasonings, then baked until golden and bubbly, they offer a delightful combination of heat and rich texture, garnished with fresh herbs for an added touch of freshness.

Ingredients

Scale

Jalapeños

  • 10 medium jalapeños, halved and seeded

Tuna Filling

  • 1 can (5 oz) canned tuna, drained
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Optional Toppings

  • ¼ cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons breadcrumbs (optional)

Garnish

  • Fresh parsley or chives, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prepare for baking.
  2. Prepare the Tuna Mixture: In a mixing bowl, combine the drained canned tuna, softened cream cheese, mayonnaise, garlic powder, onion powder, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Mix well until smooth and creamy. If using, stir in the shredded cheddar cheese.
  3. Prepare Jalapeños: Halve the jalapeños lengthwise and carefully remove the seeds and membranes to reduce the heat, then place them cut side up on the lined baking sheet.
  4. Stuff the Jalapeños: Fill each jalapeño half generously with the prepared tuna mixture, mounding it slightly for a nice presentation.
  5. Add Toppings: Sprinkle breadcrumbs or additional cheese on top of the stuffed jalapeños if desired, for an extra crispy and cheesy finish.
  6. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15 to 18 minutes or until the tops are golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  7. Garnish: Remove from the oven and let the poppers cool slightly. Garnish with freshly chopped parsley or chives to add color and freshness.
  8. Serve: Serve the poppers warm as a delicious appetizer or snack.

Notes

  • You can adjust the amount of jalapeño seeds retained depending on your spice preference.
  • For a crispier topping, use both breadcrumbs and cheddar cheese together.
  • Substitute mayonnaise with Greek yogurt for a tangier flavor and lighter option.
  • Make sure cream cheese is softened to easily mix with the other ingredients.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and reheated in the oven.
