Description

These Turkey and Stuffing Meatballs combine lean ground turkey and savory sausage with flavorful Stovetop stuffing for a moist, tender, and delicious appetizer or main dish. Baked to perfection and finished under the broiler, they make a perfect accompaniment to classic holiday sides or a comforting family meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Vegetables

  • ½ cup yellow onion, minced
  • 1 rib celery, very finely diced

Liquids & Fats

  • ¾ cup chicken broth
  • ¼ cup water
  • 4 tablespoons butter, divided

Meat & Protein

  • 1 lb ground turkey (85% lean)
  • ½ lb ground sausage (see notes)
  • 1 large egg, whisked

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 (6 oz.) box turkey Stovetop stuffing
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven. Set your oven to 400°F (204°C) to prepare for baking the meatballs.
  2. Cook vegetables in butter. Melt half the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add the minced onion and finely diced celery. Sauté, stirring frequently, for 5-6 minutes until softened and fragrant.
  3. Add liquids and stuffing. Pour in the remaining butter, chicken broth, and water. Bring the mixture to a boil, then stir in the turkey Stovetop stuffing. Reduce heat to low and stir until fully combined. Remove from heat and transfer the mixture to a large bowl. Allow to cool for 2-3 minutes.
  4. Combine meat and stuffing mix. Season ground turkey with salt and pepper, then add it to the bowl with the stuffing mixture. Add the ground sausage and whisked egg. Stir everything together until evenly combined to create your meatball mixture.
  5. Form meatballs. Roll the mixture into 1 ¾-inch meatballs, about the size of a golf ball. Place them on a lightly greased, light-colored baking sheet to ensure even cooking.
  6. Bake and broil. Bake the meatballs in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Then switch the oven to broil at 450°F (232°C) and broil the meatballs for an additional 2 minutes, watching carefully to prevent over-browning.
  7. Serve. Remove the meatballs from the oven and serve immediately. They pair beautifully with mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, and cranberry sauce for a complete meal.

Notes

  • Ground sausage adds moisture and flavor; you can substitute with ground pork or eliminate for a leaner option.
  • Use a light-colored baking sheet to help monitor browning during broiling.
  • Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper to your preference before cooking.
  • These meatballs freeze well for up to 3 months; thaw and reheat thoroughly before serving.
